KFC Plants vs. Zombies toys (ID): on online second-hand shops and lost articles/medias...

Fun fact : I decided to create this article due to Laura Shigihara (the music composer of the original game) recently posted the post that contained the picture of the iconic flyer advertisement of those of my beloved 2013 KFC Plants vs. Zombies by all of the sudden on her own X account.

After roughly more than 13 years since I watched the 📺 commercial of the original one and more than 12 years since I saw the flyer advertisements of the ones from the sequel, it's time to take a look about what's going on with those toys after their discontinuation of themselves after all these years. Well, turns out if plenty of them were made it's way to many of those people behind their own second-hand online shops (either from online marketplaces or social medias [most commonly Meta apps]), though not all of them that were available in there judging by the condition of themselves in many of the listings that I encountered since then. Well, it's time to find out about why those are ended up like so.

First off, the ones that are commonly seen on either online marketplaces and social medias are literally the ones from the sequel, because it's pretty much self-explanatory per each of them. There's not much else that I could say with them regardless of their condition since they were originally came like so in it's days, except for that one Snapdragon's "🔥" disc projectile that always missing, and so for that one particular Wall-nut's accessory where you used to play it as a top spinner. As for the rest of them besides those two, they both seem quite intact as they were, except in most of the listings, the inner workings of that one walkable Zombie toy sometimes broken (just like mine since a decade ago). Other than those, it's still quite common to encounter them in those of the aforementioned online instances anyway.

And now, for those ones from the original game that I used to excite the most, even if I obviously didn't able to get them in the first place until 3-4 years later (which I also used to purchase them from two separate instances with complete parts, which were an online marketplace and a social media). Unlike those ones from the sequel, these were obviously came in multiple pieces instead of (mostly) single piece per each of them, which was definitely the sole reason about how come if they lost them much easier. Even if they were prone to lose like so, there are plenty of them that are survived in many of those listings on online marketplaces and social medias. However, unlike those ones from the sequel, finding each of them with the complete parts are insanely difficult to come by, especially with all of them in one listings similarly to what I did to mine. Despite their rarity, I spotted two of the characters that are mildly common to see them in either online marketplaces or social medias, which notably are Cabbage-pult and Dr. Zomboss (which they obviously renamed them to "Zombies in Skull" to avoid spoilers). For the Cabbage-pult's case, they sometimes came with just the plant itself without it's own pot and projectile that came with it, but there are few of them that came with it's own pot but without projectile. And as for the Dr. Zomboss' case, they usually came with just the Zombot head itself without the Dr. Zomboss piloting the said Zombot... Now, as for the other two characters, both of those are indeed insanely difficult to find them in complete parts; not only the fact they both are obviously the main characters of the entire franchise itself, it's because they both are somewhat more valuable than the other two IMO, judging by the designs of those two (which was the reason about why I always excited over them both, though for some reason I used to excite with the Cabbage-pult instead in it's days).

Before I wrap up this particular section, there are plenty of listings that mixes them between the first two Plants vs. Zombies tower defense games, which you probably can see them in few of those aforementioned listings that featured them (which they also sometimes mixes them with many toys and mini figures from [most commonly] typical cheap Chinese sets)... On the other hand though, there are few of them that are still packed in their original transparent bags, though the chances of encountering them are insanely rare, especially for the ones from the original game (which is nowhere to be found since somebody purchased that Peashooter on Pumpkin inside it's own original package from one of those online marketplaces in our entire country). Other than those, that's basically it for how I encountered all of those KFC Plants vs. Zombies toys from both games in those online instances as a whole.

Now, as for the bonus, I spotted plenty or lost articles and medias that featured those toys, it's because it's nowhere to be found if you tried to casually search them online using any search engines. Since I also a "curator" who used to download many guest pictures of them from Instagram and some other social medias, I spotted plenty of the lost articles and medias of them, so here are list of them:

  • A WordPress article by a guy who had his opinion if this was "the power of gimmick", judging by how he got that Peashooter on Pumpkin straight from KFC.
  • Another WordPress article by an unknown individual who got that Dr. Zomboss toy.
  • A Blogspot article by an unknown individual who got that Peashooter on Pumpkin, but unfortunately the article itself was deleted later on.
  • A Blogspot article by a woman and her husband who got all 3 plant characters from the original game straight from KFC, because she was impressed by how one of her friends purchased two of those plant characters in prior and posted on her own Facebook account.
  • A Blogspot article by a woman who used to take a trip to Bali with her friends, purchased all 3 plant characters from the original game from KFC.
  • A short YouTube video (which turned into a Shorts-type video), specifically by a little boy opening a KFC Plants vs. Zombies Peashooter on Pumpkin.
  • Various of old pictures of themselves from various people from our country who used to post them on any social medias besides Instagram (for example, and so for certain other sites like photo hosting sites like Flickr), but they're indeed insanely difficult to spot at least one of them thanks to how well the social media's algorithm buried them deep all after all these years.

If you have your good old memories with those of the iconic Plants vs. Zombies toys specifically from whatever I explained in this entire article, feel free to share your own story in your comments section if you're able to. That's basically it for what I could particularly say over this entire article, and as always, thanks for reading this article.
