My thoughts about YouTube vs. any ad blockers...⚠

Recently, I received this exact serious warning during I tried to watch all kinds of YouTube videos, specifically on the web version of it with an ad blocker extension that I literally installed in each of my πŸ’»'s browsers since several years ago. However, instead of me watching them like it normally should be without all of those video ads, I immediately got greeted with that aforementioned warning where I MUST disable the ad blocker extension itself, otherwise I would ended up violating their own terms of service if I would recklessly doing so... Well, before I explain about this particular situation, I already explained it somehow in one of my older articles that partially explained about dealing with any kinds of random video ads that I ever seen them on YouTube in general (both πŸ’» and πŸ“± versions), particularly about any kinds of video ads that I ever encountered on them every single time I watch any YouTube contents.

Before I explain about the current situation about it shortly, let me explain them again particularly about what kinds of video ads that usually appears these days from my perspective (specifically right after I disabled the ad blocker, and so for specifically from our country [ID]), even though I also encountered them in both πŸ“± and πŸ“Ί versions of them too. Ranging from not-so-annoying ones, until all the way to the most annoying ones, so here are my lists of themselves, right away:

a. Not-so-annoying πŸ‘Œ

  • Skippable ads from any sort of community centers around our country (such as Qur'an learning centers, certain donations from certain communities, etc.),
  • Skippable ads from certain ads that are somewhat relevant to my own content (for this case, air conditioner ads, albeit if they're extremely hard to come by since the last one that I encountered back from few years ago, even if I didn't log in to my own account),
  • Skippable ads from certain movie trailers (for this case, movie trailers from Netflix and Prime Video, if I guessed the latter one right),
  • Skippable music video ads from random music band performers out there, either from our country or foreign ones, albeit they're somewhat hard to come by from my own perspective (even if I recently listening to certain music videos that I enjoy though), and
  • Some random unrecognizable skippable video ads from certain foreign sources, even if they are somewhat uncommon to encounter them randomly.

b. Mid πŸ™

  • Skippable ads of any modern day video games and certain popular mobile apps (most commonly are the online marketplaces, trading apps, online taxi apps, etc.),
  • Skippable ads of any random products that they sell on certain online marketplace (which most of them are usually appears casually on the TVC), and
  • Skippable ads of any gadgets (most commonly flagship devices from any popular brands)

c. Annoying 🀬

The answer of it is truly obvious, ANY of the dreaded UNSKIPPABLE video ads.

Now, "How's your thoughts exclusively about when it comes to this particular current situation where YouTube recently decided to do this indeed, exclusively in the web version of them with their own ad blocker extensions installed on every single users out there?"... Well, there's nothing else that I could particularly say apart from the fact I must deal with them anyway no matter what, apart from the fact it somehow helps each of the YouTuber's revenue for a bit (especially for majority of not-so-popular YouTubers with extremely low income of the said revenue itself per each of the channels around the entire world, including my own channel with ~6K of subscribers). Well, that's one of my assumptions about it then, because there's no absolute difference between those days before they deliberately did this and these days right after they did this on purpose indeed, it's due to the fact my own YouTube's channel revenue keeps dropping down the amount of it's own passive income since roughly last 2 years, thanks to how the overall amount of views on my own entire YouTube channel also severely decreased as well, unlike several of my own videos that I uploaded from more than approximately 3 years ago. Yes, you can watch those of my older YouTube videos that I published from then, but again, that doesn't help by how both of the said revenue and the said views are drastically lowered overtime like so, or on the worst cases, it sometimes eventually doing so all the way down to almost 0, TBH.

Watching an air conditioner ad before I watch my own YouTube videos... (Note: Indonesian languages and this was taken from few years ago, even if I didn't log in to my own Google account though)

As for the ways about how I watch all kinds of YouTube videos from either πŸ’», πŸ“±, and πŸ“Ί platforms these days, there's nothing difference apart from the fact I must deal with all of the ads that are mad commonly appears in there (including many of the unskippable ones, because they do), especially in the beginning or the endpoint of any YouTube videos that I watch (or even those of the mid-rolls, specifically for any of the aforementioned videos that has approximately 8 minutes of length or more). However, I found the way about how come if I can watch majority of them without getting annoyed by all of those ads, except I only did it exclusively in the πŸ“± version (specifically for Android versions). I couldn't tell you about what kinds of those third-party apps where you can watch YouTube videos without all of those video ads, but most of the apps are literally available out there, and you can even able to log in your own Google account on any of them without any issues (unless if most of the apps just log out once you close the whole app itself though, so be careful for using one of those third-party apps anyway). Even if you can watch YouTube videos without any of those annoying video ads, you definitely somehow deal with plethora of banner ads that are commonly appear in there instead...... or even those of the independent video ads or interactive ads that might appear every single time when you open each of the apps, which most of them are indeed unskippable (you have to wait it for n seconds until the said ads themselves ends, then you can close it either way).

Well, there you have it for the latest update about how's going on with the πŸ’» version of the YouTube in general, particularly when it comes to dealing with ANY of the ad blockers that are installed in everyone's browsers, including me. I don't know if this might be somewhat helpful for majority of not-so-popular creators or not, because that's definitely the sole reason about how come my own YouTube channel with ~6K subscribers recently has both views and revenue are drastically decreased in past 2 years. If you have some sort of your own "unskippable video ad problems" when it comes to watching any of YouTube videos from your own perspective as an audience, feel free to share your own thoughts particularly about it in the comments section if you're able to. That's it for what I could particularly say about this recent situation exclusively about YouTube, and hope you can pay full attention when it comes to dealing them, otherwise you would ended up violating their own terms of service if you keep recklessly doing so no matter what.

after i moved in to my new house...➡πŸ†•πŸ

Not too long after I made my previous article that I clearly explained about the whole progress of how I moved out from my old house into portion of my dad's main workplace, I officially moved into my new compact house shortly after I made my aforementioned article about it just before... Well then, it's time to explain about another progress about how I and both of my parents moved out almost everything from (supposed to be) that particular transit place, until all the way about how we officially settled into my house. 🏠

Before we officially moved into my new compact house, we actually have some negotiation with my dad's whole family in order to set the date particularly about when we will officially moved into my new house, and they decided to set it in June 10th, albeit they already decided it just roughly 2 months before that particular moving day. As the time goes on, I prepared almost everything that I needed in order to use it in my current house. However, I also simply left most of my own items that I didn't need anymore in portion of my dad's main workplace, and so for both of my parent's items that they both need them both for almost exact reason that I mentioned in several items of mine, including larger items such as certain electronic appliances and furnitures. They both also even left that one large horizontal wooden wardrobe in portion of my dad's main workplace, it definitely because that particular wardrobe just wouldn't fit in my new house anyway (yet it also had severe damage on it due to the termite colonies ate some parts of it already). 🏠

Okay, in the moment of truth where I officially moved into my new house, my mom literally told me if she and I were able to settle in here just a day before the aforementioned day that they set them just earlier. Right after I moved everything into here, of course I made a lot of MESS around the whole place, but I was able to organize them later on, assisted with my mom in order to so with slight ease.... Just like good old days where I used to live in my old house, everything was all quiet just like what I expected for, albeit there are only few neighbors who already settle in the whole house complex besides us, clearly because many of the houses in this particular complex where I'm living in are still under construction. Even if most of the houses in this particular house complex are still under construction, I definitely prefer this kind of environment that consists less unwanted noises just like what I used to live in my old house, instead of certain unwanted noises during I was transit in portion of my dad's main workplace which would look and sound unbearable to me (unless if I would deal with the situation and condition of that particular place though)... Yes, I occasionally hear some passenger trains passing by, but it is located just way further compared to what I used to live in my old house (which was located just SO close to the railway, but it wasn't all that bad). Even if there's a small train station nearest from this particular house complex, it still doesn't make any difference about how further the distance between that railway and this particular whole house complex is. 🏠

As for the moving party that was associated about how we already moved in to here (which was held just a day after the aforementioned day where we would officially moved into here), my mom planned to do so by renting certain sound system equipment sets from one of her friends. "Your mom rented one of your mom's friend's sound system equipment sets? I guess she rented it in order to have some karaoke in there..." Exactly! She did so in order to have some party by having some karaoke in here, yet she also invited several of her friends in order to celebrate the aforementioned party itself, and so for my dad and most of his friends too. It was kind of cozy party by singing certain songs that they chose in all kinds of genres that they wanted for. Not only just that, we also prepared a massive amount of food, beverages, and snacks as the complement particularly for the aforementioned party too. πŸ”ŠπŸ’ƒπŸŽΆπŸŽ€

Well, after the said party itself was over, everything was back into our "new normal" in our current home. Even if the overall space is smaller than my old house, we actually somehow still able to do any kinds of daily activities almost like those good old days before we moved out from my old house, by simply dealing with the situation and condition of the whole house itself without any kinds of complaints. With certain inventories that are now present in here (for this case, those are Wi-Fi access point and my brand new flat screen TV, respectively), it makes me feel enough to settle in this such compact place like one of these... As for today, I do feel partially comfortable to live in here just like old times, even if the location of it is way further compared to what I used to live in my previous places before this one. Again, even if I always bother by how the location of it is way less strategic compared to what I used to live just before, this is definitely the best way to settle in without any kinds of economical issues related to the place itself, after all of that negotiation occurred in my final times of us living in our old house last year... Well then, that's my (almost) whole progress of how I officially moved out from that particular transit place into my new house, and thanks for reading this particular article. 🏠

Just out of context related about this article: Imagine if the dreaded 2020 pandemic wouldn't present, I would still able to live in my old house for much longer even if it also had a lot of problems in there, so I would able to meet those neighbors in there for longer too... Nevermind, it definitely wouldn't happen anyway; it's because I actually had a major economical issue that was associated with it just a year before that particular year of ultimate pain began.

after I moved out from my old house...🏠➡🏠

Well, after I clearly explained about how come if I ain't live much longer in my old house anymore, it's time to update about my latest story about how's going on with myself and both of my parents when it comes about the current state of themselves. Well, without any mumbo-jumbo ado, it's time to reveal the said topic about the said situation anyway. 🏠

Before I explain particularly about them shortly, let's take a look at the moment where I started to move out everything from my old house into two locked and loaded locations that I kept mentioning just before. One of them which is obviously the portion of my dad's main workplace (this is literally where I'm temporarily settling in until I officially move out from there), and the other one is obviously my new compact house... As what we already negotiated to the owner of the whole house complex where I used to live near them, they literally exchanged my old house to that aforementioned compact house on another complex, which is located just approximately 4 kilometers away from my old location. Looks and sounds kinda further isn't it? Sure, even if we already recognize about the route about the location of the house complex itself once we got hang particularly with it recently, it takes approximately around 10 minutes of riding (🏍) from my dad's main workplace to the aforementioned complex itself. 🏠

Right, in the moment where I moved out from my old house for real, I literally prepared everything in order to so, ranging from my outfits, my furnitures, my electronics (including all of my electric fans), my own gadgets, and so on. But first, I must transit them in portion of my dad's main workplace, it's because my compact house still lacks certain inventories in there. After I moved almost all of them in the said transit place, it was PAINFULLY exhausted after all of that effort (TBH), yet it also makes it obviously better with ALL MESS of stuffs that we clearly have, which we must organize them to make it slightly spacious. Even if it does have a bit of space in it, most of the parts of this particular place where I'm temporarily settling in still out of space anyway... For almost all of my own items that I own, I specifically put most of them in the "lair" of the aforementioned transit place itself that they already built since several months ago by simply adding a separation wall between it and the main part of the workplace itself. As for both of my parent's items, they both literally put them in the rest space of the place itself no matter how cramped it is once they both filled the said space with them, including those large wooden wardrobes that they both use them as their separator furnitures. Looks and sounds severely awkward to you, but this is only the available space in this particular place ATM.  🏬

As the time goes on, my mom loaned some money from a bank in order to build the mini back porch of my compact house. It took approximately 3 months of building it by 3 separate handymen, and it also costed around IDR 20.000.000,- for doing so, with a bonus about how they also built the separation bare concrete wall borders on both sides of the part of the compact house's front porch itself. It also benefits by how another group of handymen equipping the same awning that used to be installed in the front porch of my old house by modified the size of it to make it fit with the overall space of the compact house's front porch. Unfortunately, even if it does have a front porch with it's current state that it has, she can't advance it further obviously due to the fact she doesn't have enough budget for finishing it anyway. 🏠

To sums up this particular topic, you may ask me particularly like this, "How's the current state of you and both of your parents after you moved out from your old house?" Well, I temporarily settling in portion of my dad's main workplace. Simple as that, even with all of it's glaring weaknesses that this particular place has, but I somehow got hang with the situation and condition of the whole place itself by simply deal with it, especially for constant traffic noises from various vehicles and how my dad always play any kind of music tracks whatever he wants for his work using pair of his speakers as loud as he does (yet every single time when he presents in there)... and so for both of my parents of almost exact reason that I mentioned just before. As of today, it's also close to the time where we eventually moved out from here to that compact house where I'm permanently settling in soon even if still lacks certain inventories in there, but it depends about how well if I can deal with that soon... Only the actual time and truth will reveal about that once it occurs soon. 🏠

Summary of the SCAMS that I experienced...πŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ

"If there's something that is too good to be true, then it totally isn't true..."

Courtesy: Freepik.com

As every wise people said, yes, that's basically the one and the only sentence that is related to what I'm explaining on this particular article this time, which is literally explaining about any kind of scams that I literally fell for each of them, mainly for the ones that I simply lost my money over those scammers... I already explained about few of the scams that I exposed from my two separate article that I made just earlier. Now, I think it's time for me to reveal more of the scams that I also experienced from the past (including the ones that I already exposed from my previous articles about them), yet I will reveal the initial names of each of the culprits who scammed myself in each of the occurrence as well, particularly from the ones that were occurred from our country. Without further ado, let's take a look at my overall summary of what kind of scams that I fell on each of them, shall we?

1. Investment scam...πŸ’Έ

Courtesy: Freepik.com
Culprit name: B-L (which technically it was one of the fake B-L accounts that I encountered on Instagram)

This was technically my first scam that I ever experienced, which was I got scammed by a random investment scam by one of those counterfeit Instagram accounts that was technically a fake account nicknamed of that one popular entrepreneur in our country, which was B-L... I discovered this particular account due to the fact my mom literally pointed at this particular account in order to solve certain financial problems that we both were dealing in those times, then we both decided to take some calls with the fake B-L. Then, he decided to do some "rules" in order to do his own f****** thing by transferring approximately around IDR 700.000 to him. After I transferred that particular amount of money that I transferred into him yet I had some conversation between myself and him through the chat, and of course you probably guessed it... He literally blocked us right after few moments later! So, that was it, and obviously there was no way to track that particular scammer anymore.

2. Scammed again over a steal price of a "mega" fancy πŸ’»...πŸ’Έ

Culprit name: M-I-M (which basically it was one of the counterfeit Instagram online marketplace account who "sells" certain devices [i.e. flagship πŸ“±, πŸ’», πŸ“·, etc.])

As what I explained in one of the said post that literally explained about this particular scam, I literally fell for this particular scam due to my native stupidity that I did in those times, yet this was occurred by myself during the time that particular ancient 13" Dell πŸ’» that I stupidly bought from a legit online marketplace suddenly had it's own LCD screen died... Well, for some idiotic reason, I literally had an idea by "buying" another "replacement" for it from that one "seller" on Instagram for unbelievably steal price, which was from M-I-M. I literally looked at "her" gallery of what kind of πŸ’»s that "she sells", then I decided to "pick" that particular fancy Apple 15" πŸ’». Before I "pick" that particular πŸ’», I previously looked at various other πŸ’»s that "she sells" them online, until I decided to pick that one πŸ’» that I previously mentioned earlier... So, I decided to take some chat on M-I-M of certain things related to it, until I transferred approximately around IDR 500.000 to "her" through a someone's bank account instead of "her" name (which sounds like "she" hijacked that particular person's bank account)... After few moments later, I felt something suspicious behind it, because the fact right after M-I-M contacted myself through a chat, "she" said something to myself by contacting another person in order to continue my "order" of that particular πŸ’» that I wanted, but of course after M-I-M said so, "she" blocked me yet I simply lost the said amount of money that I transferred into "her"! Well, that concluded if I got scammed by one of those Instagram counterfeit online marketplaces, so I learned the lesson for totally NOT looking at one of those for ever.

During the time I had some conversation between myself and M-I-M, I checked the address of "her store", and it turned out if the address of "her place" itself just led to the empty lawn that was located somewhere in Riau, Indonesia (which was definitely fake as "her" f***)... As for the said scammer itself, yes, it was one of those online bandits that pretended to be an online marketplace who sells certain items (for this case, it was certain electronic devices that I mentioned earlier (i.e. πŸ“±, πŸ’», πŸ“·, etc.), but as soon as you "ordered" one of those items, you ended up in further problem if the item itself that you "ordered" had some issues for certain reasons that they usually tell to you, but of course it's completely NOT true at all (i.e., got stuck in some sort of customs, those items are black-marketed, etc.)...... This particular scammer of the said type wasn't only the one that I got scammed by, it's because the fact I saw another victim who got scammed by another one of those online bandits of the same kind, but under a different "store". He lost his money approximately over IDR 126.000.000!!! Definitely the jackpot for the scammer itself that he stole that much amount of money of what the particular victim itself transferred that amount of money to him!! HOLY F****** S***!!!!!! Not even any cops from our country were able to track down those scammer bandits like this, including myself with that scammer that I got scammed by.

3. Didn't win a giveaway from bunch of those mails...πŸ“¨πŸ’Έ❓

Culprit name: E-S (a company, but I have no clue whether if this particular company is a legit company or not)

Another sort of scam that I experienced, yet I also explained already in my titular post that explained about this particular occurrence, which was how I didn't win a so-called giveaway that they "promoted" through those mails that I received from that particular company. In order to do it, I had to buy some random cheapo items that were literally costed several times cheaper than what they literally "offered" through every single mails that I received, then I decided to sent them back numerous times to them in order to win it, yet I also transferred a lot of money to them in order to buy every single items that they "offered" through those of the said mails... Until the fact I and my mom wasted a lot of money over this particular crap, so we both decided to stop it, even though they clearly said if we both almost won the grand prize of it.

4. Almost bought the thing that I wanted for much cheaper price, but...

Culprit name: L-J-S

This was occurred from one of the legit online marketplaces that I ever used, because I almost scammed by that one seller who sells one of the things that I wanted (for this case, it was some sort of so-called mini air cooler thing). I looked at the particular thing itself on that particular online marketplace, then I came across one of them that costed WAY cheaper than the average price of the said item that I wanted. So, I had some conversation between myself and that particular seller who sells it nicknamed L-J-S, then I placed an order and paying it using cash-on-delivery system for it... Right after I ordered it, I decided to take a look at the reviews about what kind of the item that he sent to any buyers who bought his items, and I was shocked if this particular seller sent them his f****** random items instead of what he literally listed for how cheap it was! Then, after few days later, I got a call from a random courier if he delivered the item that I ordered for, but I decided to reject it by simply not receive and pay it for obvious reasons. After that, the thing that I was ordered just went lost, yet his store just gone immediately as well upon this occurred... Well, at least I didn't scam by this one anyway, even if the price of the thing itself was way cheaper than the average cost of the said item itself that I wanted either way.

5. Almost "won" a "giveaway" from a SMS, but...πŸ“¨

Courtesy: Freepik.com
Culprit name: Unknown

πŸ†—, even bunch of the junk SMS in any form of frauds did count for this, because I almost fell for one of those scams if I won a giveaway through a junk SMS that the random scammer sent to me. It literally led to a wacky Blogspot page if I won a "giveaway" from a legit online marketplace, but truly is NOT true at all, it's because NONE of the legit online marketplaces did able to do that either way... Even though I obviously don't care about all of those junk SMS scams in general, I was once almost fell for one of them by simply looking at the wacky Blogspot page itself after I tapped the URL link on the said SMS itself that I received, until I had some conversation between myself and that particular scammer. The scammer itself literally had an obvious rule in order to "win" it, by transferring some money and reloading my phone's credit in order to do so... During the time I reloaded my phone's credit in a small cell phone store nearest from my current home, the owner of the cell phone store itself taught to myself in order to avoid it at all costs. He taught to me right after I almost reloading my phone's credit for approximately around IDR 300.000 for that. So, that saved me from this particular scam, although his workmate of the same cell phone store itself also received the same SMS junk scam if he also won a "giveaway", but he simply ignore it either way, then he deleted it off.

I even received even more of the same junk SMS scams like this (including the investment scams that I mentioned earlier), although I was able to do some conversation between me and any of those anonymous culprits, I annoyed themselves instead in various ways until they just simply blocked me... As of nowadays, I rarely receive any kinds of junk SMS scams like one of those though.

6. Online "affiliating academy" scam...πŸ’Έ

Culprit name: K-W-A (an entrepreneur, but I got scammed by the "affiliating academy" website of it)

In order to solve my major financial problems that I dealt in those days, but I just ended up in another scam, although it was possibly the least amount of my own money that I simply lost on it... This was also my second time my mom led to this particular scam without noticing the obvious perilous thing itself in the first place, because she simply shared a video to myself about how to earn money quicker by affiliating something through that "affiliating academy" website authored by that particular entrepreneur, nicknamed K-W-A. I checked a ton of videos of him showing his pride if he literally got a lot of money (I had no clue if it's true or not), and I was simply fell for it........ Until I ran into a problem if I had to follow some rules to do it in the website itself, I must transfer IDR 99.000 to K-W-A's bank account to unlock all of the so-called premium features in there (which I doubt it if it was his real bank account)... Unfortunately though, of course there was NO reaction from it at all if I actually got registered to do it further, even IF I already signed my main Google account on that too! Even if I also tried to transfer that particular amount of my own money to him like thrice times in order to unlock it, but it DIDN'T EVEN WORK!!! F***

Well then, there you have it for my overall summary of the dreaded scams that I experienced, being 4 of them were the ones that I caught by simply losing some of my own money over 4 of those scammers who did so to me... As every wise people said, if there's something that is too good to be true, then it is truly not true at all. Even though I got scammed 4 times like what I clearly stated here, I already learned the lesson for NOT fall for any kind of scams. As always, pay your FULL attention in order to avoid any kinds of scams that may happen sometime in the future, and thanks for reading this mega crucial article.

My school task: Technology & Information (Computer & Internet)

Okay, so. This time, I'll write about something that looks completely different on this post... No, it's not usual things that I always enjoy like electric fans or toys like several posts that I made earlier. Instead, I'll write 2 articles about Technology & Information in this post, it's because one of my teachers in my current school requested me to make this as an important school task. Without further ado with them, here are my 2 articles about them right away.

Article 1: Computer

What are computers?

Computers are machines that perform tasks or calculations according to a set of instructions, or programs. The first fully electronic computers, introduced in the 1940s, were huge machines that required teams of people to operate. Compared to those early machines, today's computers are amazing. Not only are they thousands of times faster, they can fit on your desk, on your lap, or even in your pocket. Computers work through an interaction of hardware and software. Hardware refers to the parts of a computer that you can see and touch, including the case and everything inside it. The most important piece of hardware is a tiny rectangular chip inside your computer called the central processing unit (CPU), or microprocessor. It's the "brain" of your computer-the part that translates instructions and performs calculations. Hardware items such as your monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, and other components are often called hardware devices, or devicesSoftware refers to the instructions, or programs, that tell the hardware what to do. A word-processing program that you can use to write letters on your computer is a type of software. The operating system is software that manages your computer and the devices connected to it.

Types of computers

Computers range in size and capability. At one end of the scale are supercomputers, very large computers with thousands of linked microprocessors that perform extremely complex calculations. At the other end are tiny computers embedded in cars, TVs, stereo systems, calculators, and appliances. These computers are built to perform a limited number of tasks. The personal computer, or PC, is designed to be used by one person at a time. This section describes the various kinds of personal computers: desktops, laptops, handheld computers, and Tablet PCs.
  • Desktop computers : Desktop computers are designed for use at a desk or table. They are typically larger and more powerful than other types of personal computers. Desktop computers are made up of separate components. The main component, called the system unit, is usually a rectangular case that sits on or underneath a desk. Other components, such as the monitor, mouse, and keyboard, connect to the system unit.
  • Laptop computers Laptop computers are lightweight mobile PCs with a thin screen. Laptops can operate on batteries, so you can take them anywhere. Unlike desktops, laptops combine the CPU, screen, and keyboard in a single case. The screen folds down onto the keyboard when not in use.
  • Smartphones : Smartphones are mobile phones that have some of the same capabilites as a computer. You can use a smartphone to make telephone calls, access the Internet, organize contact information, send e‑mail and text messages, play games, and take pictures. Smartphones usually have a keyboard and a large screen.
  • Handheld computers : Handheld computers, also called personal digital assistants (PDAs), are battery-powered computers small enough to carry almost anywhere. Although not as powerful as desktops or laptops, handheld computers are useful for scheduling appointments, storing addresses and phone numbers, and playing games. Some have more advanced capabilities, such as making telephone calls or accessing the Internet. Instead of keyboards, handheld computers have touch screens that you use with your finger or a stylus (a pen-shaped pointing tool).
  • Tablet PCs : Tablet PCs are mobile PCs that combine features of laptops and handheld computers. Like laptops, they're powerful and have a built-in screen. Like handheld computers, they allow you to write notes or draw pictures on the screen, usually with a tablet pen instead of a stylus. They can also convert your handwriting into typed text. Some Tablet PCs are “convertibles” with a screen that swivels and unfolds to reveal a keyboard underneath.

Parts of a computer

  • System Unit (CPU) : The system unit is the core of a computer system. Usually it's a rectangular box placed on or underneath your desk. Inside this box are many electronic components that process information. The most important of these components is the central processing unit (CPU), or microprocessor, which acts as the "brain" of your computer. Another component is random access memory (RAM), which temporarily stores information that the CPU uses while the computer is on. The information stored in RAM is erased when the computer is turned off.
  • Hard disk drive : Your computer's hard disk drive stores information on a hard disk; a rigid platter or stack of platters with a magnetic surface. Because hard disks can hold massive amounts of information, they usually serve as your computer's primary means of storage, holding almost all of your programs and files. The hard disk drive is normally located inside the system unit.
  • CD and DVD drives : Nearly all computers today come equipped with a CD or DVD drive, usually located on the front of the system unit. CD drives use lasers to read (retrieve) data from a CD; many CD drives can also write (record) data onto CDs. If you have a recordable disk drive, you can store copies of your files on blank CDs. You can also use a CD drive to play music CDs on your computer. DVD drives can do everything that CD drives can, plus read DVDs. If you have a DVD drive, you can watch movies on your computer. Many DVD drives can record data onto blank DVDs.
  • Floppy disk drive : Floppy disk drives store information on floppy disks, also called floppies or diskettes. Compared to CDs and DVDs, floppy disks can store only a small amount of data. They also retrieve information more slowly and are more prone to damage. For these reasons, floppy disk drives are less popular than they used to be, although some computers still include them.
  • Mouse : A mouse is a small device used to point to and select items on your computer screen. Although mice come in many shapes, the typical mouse does look a bit like an actual mouse. It's small, oblong, and connected to the system unit by a long wire that resembles a tail. Some newer mice are wireless.
  • Keyboard : A keyboard is used mainly for typing text into your computer. Like the keyboard on a typewriter, it has keys for letters and numbers, but it also has special keys, such as the function keys (perform different functions depending on where they are used), numeric keys (allows you to enter numbers quickly), and the navigation keys (allow you to move your position within a document or webpage).
  • Monitor : A monitor displays information in visual form, using text and graphics. The portion of the monitor that displays the information is called the screen. Like a television screen, a computer screen can show still or moving pictures.
  • Printer : A printer transfers data from a computer onto paper. You don't need a printer to use your computer, but having one allows you to print e‑mail, cards, invitations, announcements, and other material. Many people also like being able to print their own photos at home.
  • Speakers : Speakers are used to play sound. They can be built into the system unit or connected with cables. Speakers allow you to listen to music and hear sound effects from your computer.
  • Modem : A modem is a device that sends and receives computer information over a telephone line or high-speed cable. Modems are sometimes built into the system unit, but higher-speed modems are usually separate components.

History

Introduced in 1946, ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was the first general-purpose electronic computer. It was built for the United States military to calculate the paths of artillery shells. Physically, ENIAC was enormous, weighing more than 27,000 kilograms (60,000 pounds) and filling a large room. To process data, ENIAC used about 18,000 vacuum tubes, each the size of a small light bulb. The tubes burned out easily and had to be constantly replaced.
